Looks From Books: Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz

I'm doing a new series on my blog now: Looks From  Books. Which is what it sounds like, outfits inspired by books. Mostly book covers. I was much inspired thanks to this blog: http://fashion-by-the-book.tumblr.com/

To start off I choose Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz the first in a series which I am currently finishing up. (I only have the last book to read.)

This is the one of my favorite YA vampire Series. I heartily recommend. Even if your not normally a YA fan. It's glamorous vampires in New York along with gossip, secrets, forbidden romance and a dash of adventure. Plus a murder mystery. Lots of fun.

I couldn't really find anything in my closet that was close to the shade of purple that takes up most of the cover so I decided to try it in my makeup instead.

I didn't want to wear a ton of makeup as I was going for a look inspired by the main character, Schulyer Van Alen who has a relatively simple style.

The book describes her as liking vintage baggy clothes and as drowning in layers of fabric. It was 85 degrees yesterday so instead I went with what she might wear on a hot summer day.

I figured I'd go for the white and black of the bottom portion of the cover and the blue pearls for both the blue of the title and the pearls around the cover girl's neck.

Thanks for reading.

  1. I like the looks from books idea. A lot of my favourite characters are from books, and don't have particularly recognisable outfits, that people would go, 'oh you're so and so', which kind of makes it more interesting, because you have to interpret it yourself.

That character's style sounds interesting? Does it describe her outfits in the book?

    1. It does pretty well I just don't remember any off the top of my head from the first book. It's been awhile since I read that one.

  2. I started reading the Blue Bloods series because of you, I am up to book two now! It is definitely fun and addictive! I love Schuyler and Mimi is kind of cool in a nasty way, too! I love reading about the outfits!
